This beautiful building built in 1228 hosts DFS T Fondaco dei Tedeschi, a luxury shopping center full of all the duty-free goods you can desire. This building was once space to German merchants for trading, you can see this when you walk into the courtyard style architecture.
DFS T Fondaco dei Tedeschi is at the foot of the Rialto Bridge on the Grand Canal in the heart of Venice. Transformed by Rem Koolhaas and OMA in 2009, it is now a lifestyle contemporary urban department store managed by the DFS Group, the world’s leading luxury travel retailer. It is a carefully curated shopping experience with authentic Venetian treasures on the ground floor and many luxury international brands hand selected by DFS including Italian labels like Gucci, Bvlgari, Bottega Veneta, Fendi, Max Mara, Moncler, Zegna, Armani, Salvatore Ferragamo, and Valentino. Other brands offered include Tiffany and Co., Cartier, Burberry, Rimowa, YSL, Celine and many more. There is some ready-to-wear but DFS mainly carries accessories, jewelry, watches, and beauty care. This could be the Harrods of Italy!
What else does one do besides just SHOP while in Venice? EAT. Inside the magnificent T Fondaco dei Tedeschi, the legendary Phillipe Starck designed Café Amo where you can find gorgeous pastries and Amo Restaurant where you can get a taste of three Michelin star chef Massimiliano Alajmo in the main dining space of the ground floor. Massimiliano and his brother and partner Raf Alajmo created the Amo (“I love”) concept which completes the Venetian lifestyle shopping and eating experience all in one.
Let’s not forget the incredible rooftop terrace with its 360 breathtaking views of the Grand Canal. This is NOT to be missed!
